(This is the basic five card game)

NOTE: The games mechanism below is made simple as what should the game flows; this is just for past time or for friendly playing seasons. There are some alterations of the game’s mechanism when it is played with bets or professionally cause of some strategies and technicalities involves.)

There are many variations of this game along with that are the variety of attached names.

This is played with a standard deck 52 playing card. Which is the Ace has the highest value. It has the higher value than the King.

The suits are
• Clubs ♣
• Hearts ♥
• Spades ♠
• Diamonds ♦

Cards Ranking

This is rank from the best to the worst card.

Royal Flush = this has the highest and the most valuable hand card a player could have. As valuable as this corresponds its toughest hand could get.
= consist of the following cards Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10 with the same suits
A♠-K♠-Q♠-J♠-10♠

Straight Flush= comprised of five cards in numerical order and in the same suits. If there are two straight flushes, the highest card value wins.
Player A: 8♦-9♦-10♦-J♦-Q♦ VS Player B: 9♣-10♣-J♣-Q♣-K♣
Player B won against Player A, since Player B has the highest value card (K♣)

Four of a Kind = comprises of four card with the same numerical value. If there are 2 four of a kind, the highest card value wins.
Player A: 8♦-8♠-8♥-8♣-Q♦ VS Player B: 7♣-7♥-7♦7♠-K♠
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

Full House = comprise of Three card with same numerical ranks and Two cards with the same numerical value.
Player A: 8♦-8♠-8♥-7♣-7♦ VS Player B: 7♣-7♥-7♦6♠-6♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

Flush = comprises of five cards with the same suits regardless its numerical value.
Player A: 4♦-6♦-9♦-10♦-Q♦ VS Player B: 3♣-8♣-9♣-J♣-K♣
Player B won against Player A, since Player B has the highest value card (K♣)

Straight = comprises with five cards in numerical order regardless the suit
Player A: 4♦-5♠-6♥-7♣-8♦ VS Player B: 6♣-7♥-8♦9♠-10♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

Three of a Kind = comprises with three cards with the same numerical rank and two
random cards not in pair.
Player A: 4♦-4♠-4♥-7♣-8♦ VS Player B: 6♣-6♥-6♦9♠-10♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

Two Pairs = comprises of two set of pairs and one random card
Player A: 4♦-4♦5♣-5♣-8♦ VS Player B: 6♣-6♣-7♦7♦-10♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

One Pair = comprises of one set of pair card and the rest are random card
Player A: 4♠-4♠-3♥-6♣-8♦ VS Player B: 6♥-6♥-4♦7♠-10♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player B has the highest value card

High Card = Comprises of five cards not in numerical order regardless of the suits.
= If none of the player has a valuable card
Player A: 2♦-3♠-4♥-J♣-A♦ VS Player B: 7♣-8♥-10♦Q♠-K♥
Player A won against Player B, since Player A has the highest value card

How to Play

1. If this involves in token bets (ante), it is collected first.
2. The dealer will give each player a one cards in rounding order, until each player has a 5 hand cards. The rest of the cards are placed in the middle of the table. Play begins
3. Players look at his hand card and let the dealer make the first move if not had dared to start the game. The person the left of the dealer will be the nest and so on.
4. The player is allowed to discard (threw away) or drew (get a new card) three cards, as long as the player should have 5 cards on hand. All discarded cards should be in face down position, so no one can see what cards are discarded.
5. If there will be no cards left in the table, and there still no winner. Everyone will turn their card and the highest random card holder wins.

(Basic Game Mechanism)

This is also called Punto Blanco

This game we usually seen this played by James Bond, this is due to its requirement of a little expensive betting. This usually played in separate area in a gaming house. It is played also up to 12 to 14 players and guided with 3 dealers.

The two things to remember in this game are:

1. The individual who played in this game will chose either the two characters the “Banker or Player” to bet. You can find also “Tie or Standoff” character this means that the player bets both player and the banker, but his is rarely played.

2. The different percentage the gaming house takes are:

The Banker wins it takes 1.17% of the bets as the bank charge.
The Player wins it takes 1.36% of the bets as the commission.
The tie (Standoff) 14.12% at 8:1 payout

The house will get 5% from the winnings of the player as a charge, this will be deducted when the winner liquidate his payout at the counter.

Cards Value

1. The picture cards (King, Queen and the Jack plus the no. 10) of the deck cards values is Zero.
2. Aces consists only 1 value.
3. . Then if the cards sum when added the numbers equate to two digits (Ex. 6+6 =12) the last number will correspond the value of the cards. This means that if a player has double numerical figure 6 card, then his card value only is 2.
4. If the player has get a 9 or 8 total card value for him to win the game.


Aim

To get a hand card that has a closer value to 9 or natural.
To bet on which card you think has the highest value.

How to Play

1. The dealer will deal the open card; this is just the staring card. Then the dealer will ask the player where he places the bet.
2. When the player decide which part he will play or bet, in either the banker or the player.
3. The dealer will deal the two cards for each (Banker and Player).
4. One of the dealer cards is hidden beneath the faced up card. Then the dealer will asked the player‘s position. Either to hit, stay or open card.
5. When the player will say open card. This means the card that was hidden by the dealer will be open and who ever had a value card closer to 9 will win the game.

The games names came from 1900 when the popularity still modest. During this era in order to lure the player to blackjack table there was a 10:1 payout bonus for those lucky players who can hand an Ace of Spades and a Black jack (Spades or Clubs).

Glossary

Hit - means take another card from the dealer.
Stay – stay the on player’s card or stand the player cards against the dealer
Double down - double the wage, taking one more card and stay
Splitting – player has two cards in the same value (Big value). Double the wage and have each card be the first card in a new hand.
Surrender – player forfeits the bet
Hole – the name of the dealers card which is face down
Natural – another name of Black jack or 21 two –hand card
Push – both dealer and player has the same value of cards in this case it’s a draw
Soft – Player’s ace card is given an 11 value but not busted or going over 21points.

Card Value

King, Queen Jack - worth 10 points
The Ace = will be give an 11 points if it will not bring the player to bust, in which case the
Ace will be given a 1point value.
The rest of the Numbered cards there corresponds points will be based on the cards number.
Aim
To achieve a card value closer to or have 21 points, above 21 points the player or the dealer is busted. The player should have a higher point card than the dealer in order to win the game and will not loss the bet.

How to play
1. Player will have two cards, in a face down position.

2. The dealer will have two cards on face down called the Hole card and other one facing up is called the top card.

3. The dealer will ask the player his position, (to hit or stay etc). The dealer of the blackjack table is guided with set of rules which he conduct on a certain way.

4. Note that the dealer is obliged to feed more cards on his hand, while the player has the option to stop as he wishes.

5. Eventually, when the dealer reaches 17 and above point, he will not add another card in his hand. This time it’s up to the player to take a change or for a lower card which might value closer to 21.

6. If the Player has a higher value card (its either consists 21 points or closer) than the dealer then the player wins.

Art of Gaming Part 2

The gaming is played according rules. Each game has its particular rules. For example the cards games, it has point systems rules and ranking rules. Understanding and be acquainted of the rules before playing is advantageous than being ignorant. Knowing the rules at less a person could calculate when to quit or to go for a win.

Others said that during the gaming sessions, there is what you call a lucky hand person. When the person keeps winning while others losing. Being lucky might be a factor but calculating when to quit will save a person to distressful situation.

The art of gaming involves intelligence, self discipline, and suppress emotion. In intelligence part, this does not mean that a person should have a high IQ, but it’s more on how to calculate the situation when to quit and when to hold your hopes to win. For the Self discipline, this involves the person’s capability to restrain him from being overboard in betting. Not only that the person should be aware not to go on gaming while under the influence of alcohol. Lastly, suppress emotions; the gamer should suppress his emotion before playing a game. This means that leave your problems, heartaches, and frustrations at the doorstep of the gaming house, these emotions can make the person dumb.

Therefore, gaming can be fun and a person will enjoy is artistic creation if only he will play it with intelligence, self discipline and suppress emotion.

Gaming is one of the oldest past time. This was passing over to many generations, in fact this was proven by archeological findings, carbon dated fossils which were dig up during scavenging, and historical records. The games were created for different purposes, some for solution of financial crisis as the Prince Charles of Monoco did on the 18th century where the roulette games became famous, and others as a source of income to support a newly established government as what the America did on 1776. Most of common reason is for entertainment. During the time where only well off people enjoy the gaming entertainment this were made with touch of class and sophistication, while in ordinary people this was link to unpleasant image of addiction and disease.

As the time pass by this games were adopted, improved according to the era suited. Some the features where added depends on which country this was introduced like the roulette in England is played with Single 0 in 1842 but when this was introduced to America it was modified to Double 00 and was called the American roulette. In the paper cards, this was started as shuffling of paper money in China during 900AD. When these games were carried to other countries like Italy and Spain by the Mameluke Empire which was a believer of Islam adorned these cards with intricate designs. The card makers in Europe recreated these cards by designing according to the royal castling with human characters embedded in it, but without the face of the queen. It was on 1500s where the French get hold on this cards and changed one of the male characters into a female which represent the queen. These cards are the archetype of the 52 cards which is well-known today.

These games where famous not only because it gives entertainment, but it entices the brain to analyze. The challenge that the games give triggers to awaken in every individuals “hunting” desire. That makes these games survived for many years because people played and pass it to the next generations.

As the time passes, the survival of these games carries also the art of winning and losing. Human emotions were challenged, as the game goes. Others wins but most of the gamers losses with an empty pocket as well as shuttered mind, and broken hearts.
